Our History
The Bayview Golf Club was originally part of Control Data Corporation’s employee recreational club in Sunnyvale CA. Tournaments were first played sometime in the late 1960s., Initially members were just CDC employees and their families but occasionally guests could play in tournaments on an availability basis.
In 1981 the NCGA created a new category of member clubs called an Associate Club which was any club formed to promote golf but not affiliated with a golf course. The only requirement was the club had to have a minimum membership of 30 and had to have an official Charter. The Bayview GC applied for and was granted membership in late 1981 with around 50 charter members, all CDC employees. In 1982 the club started to accept non-employees into the club so those players could obtain NCGA membership and participate in our tournaments.
During these initial years of NCGA membership, the club was still affiliated with the CDC Employee Club. However by the late 1980s since employee membership was just a minority portion of the total membership, a decision was made to break from CDC and become an “independent” golf club. Bayview GC has been operating continually as such since that time.
Over Bayview Golf Club’s almost 50 year history, the club has distinguished itself from other Associate Clubs. The club won the inaugural Associate Club Championship in 1983 that was played at Rancho Canada East. In 1991 the NCGA started recognition of the best newsletters in the Private, Regular and Associate Club categories. The BGC was awarded as the best Associate Member Club Newsletter that year and was recognized as one of the best for the next 8 years until the awards were discontinued.
Spanning over 5 decades, a vast number of members have served in various capacities to insure that the values and rich traditions of golf continue while still making Bayview Golf Club a progressive and competitive, yet fun club. To this day, Bayview golf Club prides itself in being one of the most welcoming golf clubs in Northern California with a diverse group of golfers who all share in the camaraderie, beauty and enjoyment of the game of golf.
